Google Ranking and Search Engine Optimisation
Google is the largest search engine and has over 63% of the market, it’s power can be a huge resource if used right.
How does Google rank websites from search results?
Well Google constantly updates it’s ranking system and the way it decides which websites appear in the top results (first page counts for the most hits) the latest update was named ‘Panda’ and changed the way it’s algorithms work.
It’s no longer based on keywords alone, so the old ‘meta tags’ don’t fully decide how a website is ranked, although they still play a small part and can still help, although a website that spams keywords will be viewed negatively and can become ‘black listed’
Google now looks for websites that it considers appropriate, useful, updated and popular. Being popular is probably the most important factor and it considers popularity typically in two main ways, which are:
The number of visits a website gets such as from a particular keyword like “IFA search” (Adviser index is ranked high for this) and the number of ‘back links’ a page has.
A ‘back link’ is a link from another website. High quality links are classed as links from other websites which are popular in their own right, are relevant and have a description along with the link, and so not just a link within a list.
Be careful however, many websites offer fast Back Links, but all that they do is spam your link on websites that aren’t relevant and are unimportant, these can actually make your existing site become black listed, clearly you don’t want this to happen.
So good Back links should be relevant, provide anchor text which have a description along with the link to your site, and the best links come from popular sites that receive a lot of visits.
How can Adviser Index add value?
Well we already have a successful directory which receives around 2,000 new visits a day, and each one of our listings are submitted to Google with individual and relevant key words and content, we also add a back link to your existing site which counts towards a high quality link for your own site.
We also use Google ad words and via our specialist advertising company make sure our adverts are relevant and are high quality. We also have relationships with other websites that provide us with back links which again are relevant and high quality, giving us loads of new targeted traffic – traffic makes new clients after all!.
You can see our work by simply searching different terms in google, because we constantly update and publish new material this keeps our website a strong contender and a popular choice for google, we not only provide you with a great individual listing which is popular, we also make your own website rank better on google by virtue of what we do and how we do it.
